Types of Abuse

While most nursing homes in the State of Illinois are well run and provide excellent care for to their residents, there are nursing homes where care, unfortunately is sub-standard.  Sub-standard care often times, will lead to nursing home abuse and neglect.  While some forms of abuse are obvious, there are other types such as emotional and psychological abuse, they may be harder to detect.

If a loved one is being abused by their caregiver the most important thing is stop the abuse.  You should immediately contact the executive administrator of the nursing home care facility, the Illinois Department of Public health and the local authorities.  Do whatever it takes to get the abuse stopped.

This section of our web site identifies and describes the most common types of nursing home abuse.  We hope this will assist you in knowing what to look for and recognizing the signs of elder abuse.
